Transferring the work of the Audit Commission’s audit practice into the private sector

The Government has announced that it is disbanding the Audit Commission to refocus audit on helping local people hold councils and local public bodies to account for local spending decisions.

As a result of the changes, the Department for Communities and Local Government is scoping options to deliver Ministers’ aim of transferring the work of the Audit Commission’s audit practice into the private sector. We are also currently consulting on our proposals for a new audit framework for local public bodies.

We are now looking to appoint a Liberal Democrat Commissioner to help manage the move of the audit practice out of the public sector and oversee a process of change for a major public corporation. The appointment is necessarily time-limited, to the end of 2012.
