Ready Steady Boardroom: A Debate

Ready Steady Boardroom: A Debate

 Wednesday 18 May 2011
6.30 pm – 9.00 pm

The Glasgow Housing Association Ltd Offices, 31 Stockwell Street, Glasgow, G1 1RZ

At a time when the argument about how best to increase the number of women round the board table is raging, WiM Scotland offers you the chance to join the debate, sponsored by The Glasgow Housing Association Ltd.

The motion

We need gender quotas as government policy to ensure an increase in the number of women on the board of companies”.

We want to hear your opinions on this motion and use those opinions to shape the future!

Our 2 speakers are experienced board directors, Claire Dunning, Fire Starter at Creating Sparks will speak ‘’for’’ the motion and Anne McNeill, previously Managing Director of Talkback Training Ltd and has held a number of Public Appointments as non executive director will speak “against” it. In addition to our excellent speakers, we will have a panel of experts who are senior in their field to mould and shape the discussion.

What do we need from you apart from your presence at the event?

We want you to decide whether you are “for” or “against” the motion and we will take a vote at the start of the event. You can also submit any questions at registration. We will ask you in the style of Ready steady boardroom to vote at the end to see whether the debate has changed your thinking.

Key things to consider before the event:

  • Why are women under-represented in the boardrooms of UK listed companies?

  • Has a lack of gender diversity has caused any particular problems for your organisation?

  • What impact would greater gender diversity in senior positions have for your business?

  • Has your organisation taken any steps to overcome the particular issues faced by women in senior posts and what impact have they had?

  • What further actions might be taken to help achieve the aim of more women being recruited to the boardroom?
