Unravelling Equality: a human rights and equality impact assessment

Unravelling Equality: a human rights and equality impact assessment of the public spending cuts on women in Coventry, which was co-authored by Mary Ann Stephenson and was published yesterday by the Centre for Human Rights in Practice and Coventry Women’s Voices.

The report concludes that the spending cuts will widen inequality between women and men and may have a serious impact on the human rights of some vulnerable women.

It is the combined impact of the cuts that will be most devastating. Cuts to welfare benefits, jobs and services in Coventry (as elsewhere in the UK) will affect the same women. Lone parents, BME women, disabled women and women victims and survivors of violence and abuse will be particularly vulnerable.

Although the report uses Coventry as a focus its conclusions are relevant across the UK.
